CONDITIONS & TREATMENTS

Heart Rhythm Conditions & Specialist Treatments

Dr Ibrahim performs more than 300 electrophysiology and cardiac device procedures each year, covering the full spectrum of complex ablation and cardiac device therapy.

Heart Rhythm Conditions I Treat

Palpitations & heart rhythm assessment

Assessment of symptoms such as palpitations, racing heart, skipped beats, dizziness or suspected arrhythmia, with appropriate ECG-based investigation and specialist review.

Atrial fibrillation & atrial flutter

Specialist assessment of atrial fibrillation and flutter, including rhythm-control options, stroke-risk assessment and consideration of catheter ablation where appropriate.

Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)

Diagnosis and treatment of recurrent rapid heart rhythms arising above the ventricles, including electrophysiology study and catheter ablation.

Ectopic beats / premature ventricular contractions (PVCs)

Assessment of skipped, extra or forceful heartbeats caused by premature electrical activity from the ventricles. Specialist review can help determine whether treatment or further rhythm monitoring is needed.

Ventricular arrhythmias / ventricular tachycardia

Assessment and management of abnormal heart rhythms arising from the ventricles, including ventricular tachycardia. Specialist evaluation helps identify the cause and determine the most appropriate treatment.

WPW syndrome / accessory pathways

Assessment of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and other accessory electrical pathways that can cause episodes of rapid heart rhythm. Electrophysiology testing and catheter ablation may be considered where appropriate.

Bradycardia & heart block

Assessment of unusually slow heart rates and electrical conduction problems that may cause fatigue, dizziness or fainting. Treatment may include monitoring, medication review or pacemaker therapy when clinically indicated.

Syncope / unexplained blackouts where a rhythm cause is suspected

Specialist assessment of unexplained fainting or blackouts where an abnormal heart rhythm may be responsible. ECG monitoring and further rhythm investigations can help identify the underlying cause.

Specialist Treatments & Procedures

Catheter ablation

Specialist catheter ablation for a range of heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), accessory pathways/WPW and selected ventricular arrhythmias. Treatment is tailored to the individual rhythm problem using contemporary electrophysiology and mapping techniques.

Atrial fibrillation & atrial flutter

Specialist assessment of atrial fibrillation and flutter, including rhythm-control options, stroke-risk assessment and consideration of catheter ablation where appropriate.

Pacemaker implantation

Assessment for pacing, pacemaker implantation and ongoing management for patients with clinically important slow heart rhythms or conduction disease.

ICD therapy

Assessment and management of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators and other advanced cardiac rhythm devices when clinically indicated.

Cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT)

Advanced pacing therapy for selected patients with heart failure and electrical dyssynchrony.

Conduction system pacing (LBBAP)

Advanced physiological pacing, including His bundle pacing and left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP), designed to use the heart’s natural electrical conduction system. Dr Ibrahim has particular expertise in conduction system pacing and complex cardiac device therapy.

Complex cardiac device therapy

Assessment and management of advanced cardiac devices for patients with complex heart rhythm or heart failure conditions. Specialist care may include device implantation, programming, monitoring and long-term follow-up.

Second opinions

Specialist review for patients seeking another opinion about an arrhythmia diagnosis, ablation, pacemaker/device treatment or rhythm-management strategy.
